THE NIGHT

The night is long and you must go to sleep.
But he will not allow one moments peace.
Free your mind so you may rest your head.
Dream of sun and sand on water’s edge.

You roam in search of peace on grassy nulls,
To escape the plague of awful sin and death,
But beware he is right behind you.
Frantically, you race in hopes of finding peace.

You bury your head and pull the covers tight.
But there is no way to rid your soul of him.
Accept the fact and bear the awful truth.
Release your fear and let the darkness in.

His face you’re sure to see when morning comes.
With light of dawn you have a fresher view.
Trouble of past no more a crushing weight.
His hold and power less in bright of day.
